Since my Parkinson’s diagnosis it became clear that exercise and movement are critical to my overall treatment program. My regular exercise routine helps me manage the severity of my symptoms and helps slow down the progression of the disease.
To help others understand the power of exercise and movement in confronting the disease, JoAnn and I formed the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s. Thanks to the generosity of all our donors and the hard work of the Foundation’s leadership and volunteers, the Parkinson’s community is now more informed than ever about the importance of including regular exercise into their overall treatment plan. Unfortunately, accessibility to certified exercise programs is limited as the development and maintenance of these programs tend to be underfunded and not covered by insurance.
This became my motivation behind the Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson’s Wellness, a facility widely accessible to the Parkinson’s community, free-of-charge.
