Our program is unique to KGC and originated from master teachers in the lineage of Cheng Man-Ching Style Yang Short Form.
We apply classical Taiji & Qigong principles and movements as a tool to improve the many functional activities of our players, including walking, rotating, reaching, and bending. We also work to establish postural stability, step initiation and termination, multi-directional stepping, balance recovery, gaze stability, and visual acuity.
We practice a dozen Qigong forms, including Professor Cheng Man-Ching’s animal forms and evidence-based Qigong research protocols for Parkinson’s. This practice will loosen the body and relax the mind, improving the many motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s (e.g. stiffness, poor coordination and quality of sleep).
We embrace the Taiji and Qigong philosophy as a way of harmonizing with nature and each other. Our players learn from one another, building life-long friendships and creating an active and social community.
Our Taiji program provides a foundation which complements the other programs provided at KGC. We place a strong emphasis on upright body alignment, moving from the center, and a wide base of support to promote body awareness and prevent falls especially when turning and stepping backwards.
